Well, here was my first experience with a zipper and bias tape and on such a little person :) Penny picked the fabric for the dress, the dress and the pattern that I had, the ribbon, and the buttons. It was not an easy feat for me. Here are pictures of the whole process and the finished product.
Penny picked the middle right dress for me to make.
I ended up with cutting the skirt to a size 5 so that it would be longer than her knees. The true upside about making her a dress.

Penny trying it on for size. I was actually nervous that it would be too tight. But I went with it anyways.
Gathering the skirt on this dress was so daunting because it was almost twice as wide as my waist.
So I pinned as much as I could and just went for it.
It turned out great! Perfect length, zipper in.
But I felt something was missing still...

And buttons chosen by Penny of course- purple with sparkles.
I had to take the big section off the sewing machine to get the armholes done.
Turned them in...
And sewed them down.
The ribbon was the answer but I had to decide how to arrange the buttons (small, medium, and large). I was able to bounce some ideas off of some family members (my mom, sister, and second cousin). They were VERY helpful because if you sew ribbon down, it can gather and look not great. So I decided to just sew the sides on the side seams down and use the buttons to not only be decorative but to hold the front of the ribbon down (double duty).

And she LOVES it.
Selfie with the cute girl! She is in love with this dress (if you couldn't tell). Thankfully, she's a logical girl so when lunchtime came, I told her we needed to take the dress off so that she wouldn't get her peanut butter sandwich on it. YAY!
